The first thing that springs to mind when thinking of Tamil Nadu cuisine are the sizzling dosas and idlis with lip-smacking sambhars. But the food offers so much more, too, such as the mouthwatering pongals, mutton parottas, and Chettinad chicken dishes, the earthy curries rich in curry leaves and coconut milk, and of course, the irresistible desserts.

Tamil Nadu is known for its distinctive and healthy desserts. The majority are nutritious dishes that don't require a lot of sugar and contain lean proteins like chickpeas and green gramme. Here are a few of Tamil Nadu's delectable traditional sweets.

1.PANIYARAM

There are two flavours of paniyaram: hot and sweet. In Tamil Nadu, chettinad paniyaram is well-liked. Paniyaram is made with onions, green chilies, and curry leaves. Paniyaram flour is made through fermentation.

2.SAKKARAI PONGAL

Rice, moong lentils, ghee, jaggery or sugar, cardamoms, and almonds are the main ingredients in the delectable South Indian meal known as sweet pongal. This dish is customarily prepared to be offered to the gods on festivals and special occasions. Sakkarai pongal is the Tamil name for sweet pongal. On the day of the Makara sankranthi or pongal festival, it is prepared in a lot of traditional South Indian houses. Our ancestors are thought to have created the dish to symbolise and celebrate abundance and success following the harvest.

3.ADHIRASAM

This is sweet and has a significant significance to Diwali in Tamil Nadu houses. Jaggery and rice flour are the two ingredients in this deep-fried delicacy. To have an authentic Adhirasam, one must go to The Grand Sweets and Snacks locations.

4.WHEAT HALWA

The milk from the wheat is extracted before being cooked with ghee and sugar to create this traditional wheat halwa. Everyone who travels to Tirunelveli must bring back a few boxes of this candy.

5.COCONUT LADDU

You will be glad after knowing the recipe of this amazing laddoo. What you need is just a grated coconut and sugar. Cook the coconut and sugar together and when it’s cool down make small laddoos. The taste of this laddoo is simply amazing. It’s totally similar to that of coconut candy

6.MYSORE PAK

This dish is created using gramme flour, sugar and flavorful cardamom powder that has been toasted in copious amounts of ghee. After cooling, it is cut into squares. It is a must-have dessert during Dussehra celebrations and other events. In the south, it is referred to as the "king of sweets" and is quite popular.
