 Idli sambar is a South Indian breakfast meal where soft fluffy steamed cakes known as idli are served with sambar,a vegetable lentil stew.Idli sambar is made with lentils,plenty of spices,mixed vegetables and herbs.Make this amazingly delicious and easy idli sambar at home for a hearty,protien packed and flavoursome meal.it is also known as tiffin sambar and is served with South Indian tiffin/breakfast such as soft idli ,rava idli,crisp meduvada,khara pongal,crispy dosa,masala dosa and bonda.

         Idli Sambar

This is my vesion of the quick tiffin sambar made with dal,quick cook veggies,spices and herbs.There are few different ways a sambar is made,one of them is this South Indian Sambar which I shared earlier.

But today's recipie is made in a very simple method using quick cooking veggies like shallots, carrots and beans.Hence it doesn't take much time to prepare and can be made even in the early morning.

Iam also sharing how to make instant sambar powder just enough for this recepie.I always make this tiffin sambar with homemade powder.If you are new to making Indian food,then do check out the tips below.

On most weekdays,we eat the typical South Indian breakfast like idli,dosa,pongal and pesarattu since they are high in protein and healthy as well.This tiffin sambar goes so well with just anything.

Sometimes I make mini idli for dinner when the kids ask for it.This sambar along with the mini idli and ghee is one of my kids favourites..

 Planning and cooking Idli            sambar……

 1.Some plannings and preparations in advance are required if you want to make idli sambar for breakfast.So make the idli batter and ferment it in the previous afternoon or late evening or night.

2.When the batter is fermented the next day,you can steamed idli when you pressure cook the dal and cook veggie in a pot or pan.I usually pressure cook  lentils first.Then roast the spices and make the sambar powder from scratches.When the lentils are cooking and I steamed the idli and keep them stored in a casserole so that they stay warm.After making the tiffin,sambar powder, I cook the veggies and make the sambar.

While serving idli sambar you can drizzle a bit of ghee on top.You can also top it with some choped onion.Also garnish some coriander leaves while serving….
