Dowry, we all know that its an evil and exploitative practice which is going on since ancient time. And most of us think that the basis of this evil practice is patriarchal society, And groom side is more delinquent for this cruel practice.I too think that patriarchal thinking and society is nourishing it since years. But we all know that a coin always has two sides. In same way, both aspects are responsible for the incipience of any malpractice in our society. Today I will try to focus on another aspect of this evil practice.
we all have seen in our society, how a govt. servent or financially stable groom or his family ask for expensive gifts in their marriages, and in this whole process sacred bonding of marriage just become a buisness. But if we focus on the second aspect , when a girl or her family starts looking for a groom, they always have in their mind that groom should be a govt.employee or a well settled financially stable, instead of looking  for a intelligent, good mannered , advisable groom. they just see their bank account status. I know that for living a respectful life financial stability is too important but I don't think that it is above the advisability of a groom because, if a bride or groom have advisability, mutual understanding in their nature then they can make their way for financial stability too. Otherwise a wrong partner can ruin their whole life. Isn't this aspect of bride side equally responsible for nourishing the dowry system? If bride hasn't financial stability then this situation could be justifiable because all parents want to see their daughter in a financially stable in law's house so that she will live a full fledged life. 
But in case of a financially independent bride looking just for a good earning groom, i don't think it is justifiable. Atleast in this case we can avoid dowry by selecting a low earning but advisable groom, since groom himself a low earning, financially unstable therefore  there is less probability of asking dowry from groom side. 
There is no dearth of financially independent girls in our society if they are able then they should take step against this patriarchal ideology by selecting a low earning but loving and good mannered partner. Why do we have to maintain patriarchal society? Now the time has changed, girls also have equal opportunities which are also making them financially capable.Social challenges will definitely come in this, But if we have to change this system, then we will have to face challenges and girls will have to take initiative in this and boys will also have to support them. I do not claim that this evil practice will end completely, but it will definitely reduce and this initiative can play an important role in changing patriarchal society. Just as a long distance is covered by running short steps, in same way small changes will eventually prove to be a major social change.  ✍️✍️✍️✍️
